College football (non-Duke)

Doeren's best season at NC St is 8-4 this year. Butch went 8-4 at Tennessee last year. If they hire Doeren, there will be another coaching search in 3-4 years and an even angrier fanbase to contend with. Or maybe nobody will care by then.

Oh, you can take that to the bank. Tennessee will eat this dope alive.

Jones is definitely out. Sounds like Leach will get offered the Nebraska job. I'd wager Tennesee makes a run at Scott Frost, maybe Nebraska too.

I could also see Tennessee doing something weird like hiring Doeren.

hahahaha I swear to God if they hire Doeren...

It appears that the Tennessee fan base has a vastly different valuation of the football program than do actual football coaches...
Yeah, that's the most confusing part about this. What do these people think their program should look like?

No. That's a top 10 job, IMO. You need to see what's happening behind the scenes to figure out why they're getting ready to hire Doeren.

The biggest problem with Tennessee is incompetence at the administrative level, imo. It's unrealistic to expect them to win as much as Bama - nobody else in college football has come close to them since Saban arrived - but they should be able to attract better coaches than Dooley, Jones, Schiano and Doeren.

It goes much deeper than the administration. You need to look at the governor of Tennessee and his brother. The Haslam family has stacked the UT AD and Board of Trustees, and Bill will be the next president of the school. They were integral in getting guys like Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker elected. Mayors. State reps. You name it. Jimmy, the owner of the Browns, is a complete knucklehead and could be headed to prison. Peyton Manning has apparently cozied up to the Haslams in the hopes of a political career, btw. Some other boosters had a deal lined up with Jon Gruden, but the AD John Currie, who is a Jimmy Haslam puppet, went rogue and tried to hire Schiano. Jimmy is fixated on Schiano because Bill Belichick recommended him. He tried to hire him for the Browns job. So now there's a huge booster and fan revolt going on. I am now hearing the Doeren deal is not done and the search could go into next week. Complete and utter shit show.

They think their program should be Alabama-Knoxville.
Are they wrong? Football is all they have, and they've won 6 national championships.

They deserve better than Stained Schiano or Dopey Dave Doeren.
They have won 1 title in the last 50 years.

Michigan has 1 national title since the 40s. Are they not a top program that deserves a top coach? They finally got their ducks in a row and hired Harbaugh.

Tennessee is not a top 10 program but they should be able to hire better coaches than the last two clowns they've hired and are likely about to hire.

USC
Alabama
Ohio State
Michigan
Oklahoma
Notre Dame
Nebraska
Tennessee
Texas
Penn State

Those are the 10 best programs of all-time, IMO, in no order.

Tennessee and Nebraska are definitely teetering on an exit from the top 10, though.

Then you've got Miami, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Auburn, Florida State, etc.

JMO but I don't think you'll find many people outside the state of Tennessee who think it's a better job than Florida, FSU, LSU, Georgia, and Auburn now. Hell, maybe not even A&M currently given the recruiting advantage of being the SEC school in Texas.

This reminds me of when State fans kept bringing up their basketball tradition and how great of a gig that was.

NC State is where the Duke/UNC/Wake rejects attend. UT is their state's flagship with a good recruiting base, a massive stadium, massive fan base, massive amount of money, and massive amount of history. They are just being fucked right now by a terrible and corrupt family. I think a good comparison for Tennessee right now is Oklahoma in the late 80s/early 90s under Gibbs, Schnellenberger, and Blake. The Sooners then made a solid hire in Bob Stoops and the rest is history.
