Are you planning/hoping to record more than one musician at a time? Like a live-in-the-room sort of thing? If so, you'll need an interface with more than two inputs. But if you're just recording demos yourself to share with other people as specs, two will be fine.

I'm not a pro but if you get to the point that you need something mixed or otherwise manipulated, I'd be happy to help, though I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find someone in your actual area to do that.
No, it will just be me. I'd probably lay down a backing track of some kind (guitar or keyboard) and then do vocals later. May vary from song to song. If I have a cool bass part or percussion that really changes the flavor of the song, I'd add that as well.

I'm thinking of getting a condenser mic for vocals. Suggestions? What about midi keyboards?

I have a cheap condenser by CAD that I've had for a decade and it works fine. You can get them used for almost nothing. MXL also makes decent condenser mics for not a ton of money.

I have a bare-bones M-Audio midi keyboard that I think I got at Best Buy for super cheap. Doesn't feel anything at all like a keyboard is supposed to feel, but it gets the job done.

Thanks.

Basically, I have about 15 years worth of music piled up and I'm sick of doing nothing with it. Genre roughly equals paired down Radiohead mixed with poppier stuff like Surfer Blood, Weezer, Vampire Weekend, etc. Strange key changes, dark and ironic lyrics, while still attempting to sound accessible. I don't expect it to ever make me any money, but I would really like to hear it played by good musicians.

I'm intrigued by those references. I'd seriously play on it if you don't find locals to do it. Just a matter of sending files back and forth. I despise the singing/writing lyrics side of things, so I'd be thrilled to avoid all of that.

Rediscovering my Bjork obsession. This song is music porn, especially at around 5:45 when that bass drops. RIP, McBoberts, who would have stayed up until 2am with me talking about Bjork.

I unreservedly love Lana Del Rey, particularly the albums Born to Die and Honeymoon. The new albums was sort of ruined for me by guest appearances. I hate that song she did The Weeknd.

I don't like that remix as much as the moody slower original, though, Ben. It kind of removes the lounge-y vibe I like from LDR.

I'd only seen them live one other time, at some amphitheater a couple of years ago. It didn't compare to this at all. They fucking rocked, and had so much more energy in a smaller venue. One of the best live shows I've ever been to.

Makes me sad that I somehow never happened to see them when I was younger.

Amphitheater shows are always shitty, imo, especially if they are outdoors. Obviously you don't always have this luxury, but every band should be seen in a venue of 2000-person capacity or smaller.

I saw Superchunk a bunch of times back in the day. My first time I was like 15. This would have been 1995. But since I didn't have a license yet, my parents picked me up. This meant we had to leave the show at 11:15. They didn't start until a little before 11.

Has anyone noticed that shows start hours earlier than they used to?

Yeah. Show started last night at 8. Modest Mouse came on around 9:30 and were done by 11:30 and we had to wait 20 minutes for the fucking encore.

Agreed. I saw Mutemath in some small venue in Charlotte back in the day, and it was amazing. We were practically standing on them.

Saw Lyle Lovette and his Large Band at the Portsmouth Amphitheater which is really small. Thus meeting your 2000 seat max but also it was an outdoor amphitheater.

It was awesome.

Saw Wolf Mother at the National in Raleigh. Lead singer stage dived (dove) on my face.

I have seen some good outdoor shows, and even some great festival shows. So it's a little bit of hyperbole. By and large, though, if I saw that same band in a smaller indoor venue it was better.

Only good outdoor show I've been to was Belle and Sebastian a few years ago in Maryland. Just a bunch of drunk hipsters dancing on the lawn. Not bad.
