Rules

Because i'll be running the Pick 'em game through the Sportsbook this year, the rules and system will be a little bit different.

Betting

Each game will have two available outcomes: one in which each team covers the listed line. As such the games themselves are numbered, with each posted pair of opposite outcomes for that game having that same number prefixed. For example:

X41KPv9.png

Game #1 is Kansas City against New England, with both possible outcomes (KC cover the +9 and NE covering the -9) assigned with the "1." prefix. Game #2 is the Jets against Buffalo, with both possible outcomes (Jets covering +9.5 and Bills covering -9.5) assigned with the "2." prefix.

You may only pick/bet one of the outcomes listed per game.

In this case above, for the first game you can either pick/bet New England covering, or Kansas City covering. You cannot pick both.

You can either pick/bet the Jets covering, or Buffalo covering. You cannot pick both.

If you ignore this rule and do wager on both outcomes, your pick for that game will be counted for zero no matter which team wins.

Scoring

The biggest change from the last few seasons will be a tournament format that takes place during weeks 15-17, with the first 14 weeks serving as a qualifying regular season. This tournament will feature the top 8 users from the first 14 weeks, with qualification details listed below.

Scoring week to week will be similar to the last few seasons. For each game, if you pick correctly, you get +1 points. If the game is a push, you get 0 points. If you pick incorrectly, you lose -1 points. However, your total running score over the season can never go below 0. For example, say you finish +2 in Week 1, and +3 in Week 2: Your total running score entering Week 3 will be +5. However, let's say you finish with a -7 in Week 3. Your total running score after Week 3 will be 0, not -2.

To discourage players from just sitting on a high point total, all users who participate by picking at least half the games in a given week will be given a bonus of +1.

Each week, the user who finishes with the highest score for that week will be deemed the winner for that week and be awarded 1 "win". If two users have the same score, each of the users will be awarded 0.5 "wins". If three users have the same score, each will be awarded 0.33 "wins", etc. Note that the bonus points will not be used in tallying your total score for that week in terms of determining who is awarded a win. Wins will not be distributed in the case that at least 8 users don't participate in the majority of wagers that week.

At the beginning of week 8, as a means of keeping things competitive, penalties will be assessed on the players currently qualified for the tournament: Failing to bet on at least half the games will result in a -1 point penalty, while failing to bet on any games will result in a penalty of -2 points.

Any user who finishes the first 14 weeks with 2 or more wins will automatically qualify for the Week 15-17 tournament. The remaining at large spots will be awarded to the non-automatic qualifiers in order of their total running score. In the event of ties for the last remaining at large spot(s), the first tiebreaker will be number of wins awarded - between 0 and <2 for the non-auto qualifiers - and the 2nd tiebreaker dice rolls in chat, if it comes to that. This is to encourage users to participate even if they are lagging behind in running total score or didn't start until later in the season.

The users who qualify for the tournament will be seeded 1-8 based on their running score totals throughout the season, with ties being broken first with number of wins awarded, and 2nd by dice rolls if necessary.

Playoff scoring will be done by counting number of correct picks only. No negative points for wrong picks, no bonuses, with the top 4 users by score for that week advancing to Week 16. Tiebreakers will be done by seed if necessary. Those 4 users who advanced will then bet Week 16 accordingly, with the top 2 users by score advancing to the Week 17 championship round. Those 2 users will then make their picks (higher seeded player picking first), and the user who scores the highest will be deemed the champion, with the higher seed being awarded the victory in case of a tie.

Prizes

At the end of the regular season (week 14), each user will be rewarded with $100 multiplied by their final running score. The 8 tournament qualifiers will also be rewarded an additional $100 each. The 4 semifinalists will be rewarded with an additional $250 each. The runner up will be rewarded with an additional $1000, while the tournament champion will receive $5000, in addition to a site trophy to be named later.

---------------------------------------------------

I will be keeping a tally week to week in the Sportsbook event descriptions, keeping track of last weeks results, the total running scores, as well as the Pick 'em tournament qualifiers to date. If you believe I got your score wrong for a week, please let me know and i'll tally it again.

Remember, this is designed so even if your score is lagging behind in the leaderboard, you can still qualify for the tournament by just getting the most right over two separate weeks.

Let me know below if you have any questions.

I can do e-money bonuses for wins and a big e-money bonus for the champion if you want, @DurhamSon.

I think that's a bit much, but I wouldn't mind doing up to 500/5,000

Can you alter your bets before games start?

I'm not sure; you would have to be able to delete wagers before the lock, and i'm not sure if that's possible. Perhaps it's a setting that @ZackM could enable.
I know there's a setting to allow users to delete/cancel wagers, but I don't think it can be set for specific events.

Actually, after reviewing the permissions, there's no option for deleting/cancelling bets in the sportsbook, only the betting exchange.

Hey @DurhamSon was under the impression you wouldn't be posting Thursday games, so that's why I didn't bet the openers, just fyi.

Things of note week 1

Looks like @ZackM and @SeanMayTriedToEatMe will each split the "win" this week, all because @rhfarmer missed it outright when the Chargers had their late cover.

@AxeS24 cost himself a point by betting on each outcome for the first game.

@Inveigle sadly missed out on the bonus by inexplicably only picking 13/14 games.
