A chatty subway employee in Oregon was inquiring about my preferred team this week once he learned I was from NC, and when I told him, he said, "Now you guys are better than UNC in basketball AND football!"

Not entirely accurate, given our last meeting, but still warmed my heart that even a random guy in the Pacific Northwest was aware of the rise of the program.
