Clark dropped Duke, won't be visiting after all.

We should probably mention that Deondre Singleton, 3-star CB, committed.

Picked Duke over Penn State I heard. My roommate is a Penn State fan, I shared the news with him.

They got another guy from Shabazz Muhammad and Shaquille Powell's high school - Ryan Smith, WR, 3-star Rivals. Switched from New Mexico. Offer list is not impressive.

Sounds like Rivals 3-star TE, Aaron Batten, will commit to Duke at some point.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/duke/football/r ... ten-142222

That would give Cutcliffe 12 Rivals 3-stars in 2013. Almost all of them are of the 5.5 rating variety, though, right at the 3-star cutoff.

Supposedly there were academic issues and it didn't happen (it was going to be last weekend).

Sounds like the main target for the last spot is Elijah George http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Elijah-George-130889. He's only a two-star but should be higher - started recruiting process really late and his visit to Duke last weekend was his first anywhere. We were apparently the frontrunner (and he really liked his visit), but then Oregon just offered and he's visiting there this weekend or something, so that will probably mean two recruits and a coach that Oregon has now stolen from us this year. There's also a 3-star LB named Nigel-something that we're trying to get on campus.

The WR recruit (Ryan Smith) is only 5'7 165. He runs a 4.4 though and set a bunch of Nevada receiving records. No clue how he'll pan out.

**** Oregon, they got him. Should have been our steal.

Oregon: Cutcliffe :: Roy:K, except that it doesn't quite work out so well in this case...

I'm going to assume Duke football isn't winning recruiting battles with Oregon, Alabama, Notre Dame, etc. during my lifetime.

So basically it's going to be a boring as hell signing day if everything goes as planned now.

Is a Duncan or Rayner like pickup out of the question?

The good thing about this class seems to be a lot depth of guys with offer sheets to indicate actual, ACC-level talent. Bad thing is that we didn't really hit any hit any homeruns, although we did beat out schools like Michigan, PSU, Clemson and S. Carolina for a couple guys.

I have high hopes for all the backs.

We probably need to take 8-9 lineman next year. 4 OL & 5 DL

Never been a better opportunity in recent times to have success in those areas.

Pants- do you have any in depth analysis on guys you think won't red shirt next year?

Duke just beat out every NC school + UVA + probably Clemson for an enormous 2014 OL named Trip McNeill. Really great start to the class.

Super impressed by this kid,

Especially his haircut.

Does he project as more of a tackle or guard?

Something about the combo of his picture and the quote ("I found what I was looking for") in the TDD article cracks me up.

It seems like Duke is slowly racking up a real solid class of all, or nearly all, three star guys. Shaping up to be the best in the Cut era. Hope the commits are solid.

Apparently he'll be playing QB? Seems odd if we still target Pierre as our top guy

Normallly I'd think this is the type of guy Duke would end up losing before signing day, but since he already has all of those offers, maybe not. I know he's ranked highly as an "athlete", but one were to rank him purely as a QB, any idea where he might stand?

Just don't see where QB snaps are coming from anywhere in the next 4 seasons with Sirk, Parker B, Quan, and Douglass.

Truthfully, I wish we'd gap a year in recruiting QBs and go after a big talent in 15 or 16

You think Douglas and Chambers will stay at QB? I thought we recruited Douglas at WR, at least. Either way, neither were exactly top QB recruits.

This is sort of a confusing one to me, though. On the one hand, I fully trust an offer sheet with ND, OSU, etc. over my own snap judgment. But, OTOH, if I'd seen nothing but his measurables and tape, I would not be at all impressed - just under 6', not a burner, doesn't blow you away with his arm. Would be really interested in hearing a scouting report or something, because whenever I try to ask on TDD everyone gets defensive.

Like, I don't really get what Pierre doesn't do better than him at QB, though?

Actually, looks like his junior highlights went up today, and he does look a lot better in them: .

Still though, I kind of worry that the offer sheet is a little misleading if he was mainly recruited as a DB or WR.

Adam Rowe is saying that Caleb Hines (son of Clarkston Hines) was really impressive at the 1 day camp yesterday.

The camera work seems a little shaky but he seems fast and has good balance.

Rowe's personal coverage of the football program has been so superior to the non existent coverage on TDD.

Sweet. I'd be interested to hear his current 40 time - he's listed as a 4.5 and that may well be right, but he looks a little faster to me.

He's also made some interesting comments about being firmly committed to Duke, but that if an equally impressive academic program like Stanford or Vandy came calling, he implied he would still consider them. Not really sure what a specific question would be about that, but it was sort of a strange thing to say the day he committed.

So the exchange I had with Taylor was pretty damn interesting. He brings a fantastic mindset in that he finds Duke's combo of academics and athletics to be unparalleled and has the confidence and desire to be "one of the greatest to ever leave that place." I didn't get an updated 40 time but he looks damn fast on tape and he's got a big reputation as a burner. He is also apparently up to 6'2" now. If he adds a little bit of weight he'll be a FANTASTIC deep threat guy, similar to Eron Riley imo.
