Those of you arguing that this is a top 2 worst team of the K era never saw the Vince Taylor teams or year one of the Dawkins era. 81-82 with Taylor and 82-83 with Dawkins, Alarie and Bilas as freshmen almost got K canned. That 82-83 team finished 11-17 and got thumped by UVA 109-66 in the first round of the ACC tournament.

This is nowhere near as bad as that.

However, this team is not playing against Michael Jordan and Ralph Sampson 4 times a year.

There were two times in the last 8:00 where I felt like Duke worked it for a very good shot: the Goldwire missed 3 and the Baker missed 3. And it’s not only (or even mostly) a matter of coaching: there just isn’t anybody who can beat their man 1-on-1 with speed, power or intelligence. Or break a zone with any of those things. Well maybe there is one guy but he was on the bench for most of the second half, and tends to fall down as soon as he tries to do something.

81-82, 82-83 and 94-95 definitely feel like tier 1 worst teams.

Tier 2 would probably include 80-81, K's first year where we went 17-13 and played in the NIT, 95-96 (18-13 and a first round exit as an 8-seed), maybe 06-07 (though Duke was #10 in Pomeroy), and 20-21.

This team could wind up in tier 1 if they limp to an 8-14 finish, though.

So basically this team is not yet as bad as K's first couple of years or the year that he didn't coach. Congrats on that achievement.

I will say, that if this shit team played in 82-83, they would be getting demolished in ACC play instead of losing by 5.

That 82-83 team lost to Appalachian State 73-57 in Cameron and the Iron Dukes were on the war path. I think everyone who was a Duke fan questioned the hiring of K.
