PNC Arena

Kenpom: #74 overall, #79 offense, #82 defense

Kevin Keatts continues his run of mediocrity in Raleigh, with wins over Duke as the only achievements keeping his tenure going.

DJ Horne, a 5th year COVID guy who transferred from Iowa State and then Arizona State, is NC State’s best player and their only dangerous scoring threat. He’s a guard who can score from everywhere, but he doesn’t do much else.

Duke’s players, coaches and fans will be looking ahead to their revenge/rivalry game vs. UNC, whereas NC State has nothing realistic left to play for this season other than beating Duke. Having been swept by UNC already, as expected, this is the most important game of their season, and possibly their lives.

Looking at the matchup history, it’s interesting to note that our woes in Raleigh only started in 2010. 3-6 there from that season on, but from 1996-2008, we went 10-2.

I took the late 90's-early 2000's Duke era for granted. Only two ACC road losses total from 1998 to 2001.
86-94 and 98-06 were insane runs. With the portal I don’t think we’ll ever see anything like them again.

It's not just that we went 3-6. It's HOW we lost. We've lost at Wake a bunch, but it's generally respectable. NC State, not so much.

2023: 84-60
2020: 88-66
2018: 96-85
2015: 87-75
2013: 84-76
2010: 88-74

In 2023, Duke was unranked heading into the matchup. But in the other years, they were ranked, 6, 2, 2, 1, and 7. NC State was ranked 20th in 2013. They were unranked in every other matchup.

So to sum up, we have a winning percentage of .333 in Raleigh since 2010. Five of our six losses were to an unranked opponent. We've allowed 87.8 ppg in those losses. NC State's average margin of victory was 16.8. We can talk about other venues being a "house of horrors" for Duke in recent years. But nothing compares to PNC/RBC.

I would say, from 2010 on PNC is #1, Blacksburg #2, with Coral Gables/Littlejohn tied for third.

The Joel was a nightmare and the clear #1 in the aughts but we haven’t lost there much since (their program just completely tanking for a full decade helped). Though I’m a little worried about it becoming one again as we’ve now dropped two straight in WS.

I’m hoping they blew their load in that first half yesterday and are getting ready to pack it in for portal season.

If there is a god we will be treated to multiple possessions of Stewart guarding DJ Burns.
