Kenpom: 95 overall, 83 offense, 130 defense
If you could create a team that isn’t good enough to be more than fringe top 100 overall but would have the best chance of beating Duke this week, it would look a lot like Hofstra.
Hofstra is one of the best shooting teams in the country - top 10 FT%, top 30 3PT%, top 50 2PT%, top 20 eFG%, top 30 3PT rate. 5th year senior guard Tyler Thomas is the primary threat - he’s shooting 40% 3PT on 10 attempts per game, and 96% from the line. All five Hofstra starters are legitimate threats from 3.
This is probably the game with the biggest downside on the schedule. Not only could Duke realistically lose, but Scheyer could be absolutely embarrassed for putting out a prehistoric offense relative to the product Speedy Claxton is putting on floor with far less talent.
