Memphis transfer Austin Nichols would like to play for Virginia, but Memphis isn't likely to alter its initial release, sources told CBSSports.com.

The Tigers blocked four schools -- Virginia, Iowa, Providence and Tennessee -- on Nichols' release last week in addition to any program in the American Athletic Conference. The four schools mentioned were restricted because they're on Memphis' schedule in 2016-17.

Sources said Nichols would like to play for the Cavaliers, but knows that Memphis' administration is unlikely to alter the initial release and he would then have to file a formal appeal.

Two other sources said that in the likely event that the initial release isn't altered, Duke would be the favorite to land Nichols. The Blue Devils recruited Nichols out of high school and could sell him on joining a front court featuring some of the best players in the Class of 2016.
