Welcome to Duke Forum,
Perhaps surprising to some, this forum has existed in some form since the Summer of 2011 when ~10 posters from various major Duke Basketball Message boards came together to form a private forum where they could discuss Duke Basketball, movies, music, sports, and a variety of other issues. The goal was to put together an organized and clever forum where intelligent discourse could be encouraged. This forum is an extension of that original project and we couldn't be more excited to have you on board. A few items for your consideration:
BOARD STRUCTURE:
This site has a number of elements to it. First and foremost, there are THREE forums.
Duke Basketball-- This forum is completely public and completely dedicated to discussion of Duke Basketball.
Duke Football-- This forum is open and dedicated to discussion of Duke's Football team.
The Banana Stand-- This is an off-topic forum. Do whatever you want. Have a ball. However, we would encourage you to steer clear of religious issues as experience tells us all that nothing good ever ever comes of those talks.
RULES
(1) Add something to the conversation. Don't just post noise ("totally agree"... "i know, right?" ... "that's what I'm saying"... etc...)
(2) Try to avoid starting new threads. We like a clean board and broad topics for discussion. If you're thinking about starting a new thread, do a quick search and see if there's an existing thread that would be suitable for your post. Ideally, new threads should only be created for the following subjects:
-Yearly Duke Basketball Season
-Yearly UNC Basketball Season
-Yearly College Basketball Season
-Recruits with an offer
(3) No bigotry please.
(4) No doxing. Doxing will result in an immediate lifetime IP ban.
(5) Do not create multiple accounts.
FEATURES
You will also notice that we have a number of cool features. They include:
(1) Chat Room- The chat room is accessible to all
(2) Embedded media in threads - Just use the appropriate BBcode. The "Media" BBcode is especially robust and can handle many popular media sources.
(3) Tagging - You can find the tag option in the BBcodes while making a post. Or you can simply include an "@" before typing a username.
Tagging someone will create a link to their profile in the post and also notify them via PM/User Alert that they have been tagged. The PM/User Alert will also include a link to the tagged post. You can turn off the PM notifications in your profile posting settings.
(4) User Alerts - Users will receive a notification if a post of theirs has been liked or quoted, or if someone has tagged them in a post.
(5) Virtual Sportsbook - You can test your sports knowledge by betting eCash (fake money) on events in the Degenerates' Den.
This board is completely free and completely free of advertising. It is created for Duke fans by Duke fans. In fact, it is the fruit of a collective effort that involved some 20+ longtime Duke posters. So, we hope you enjoy what we have built and decide to stay for awhile.
