I went to see Wilco lastnight. Great show per usual though I wish they had more 'star wars' songs in the set. 1st time I have seen them in almost 4 years.

Shit, for three days' worth of practice y'all sound pretty put together. My ears hear a bit of a Clutch vibe, which is cool.

Fuck it, guess I'll play, too. Three songs at the link. I don't have a band – I play all the instruments and do all the recording/mixing/mastering myself, which is a pain in the ass and explains why I've only had time to actually finish three songs over the last year or so.

Exodus from an Undesirable Place – Mostly big, dumb guitars, but after watching Stranger Things, I also felt like dicking around with synth sounds and 80s drum machine stuff.

Long Enough – I hate my voice and rarely sing.

Lights on Wires – Ends with a long, meathead guitar solo.

Wow, Clutch, I hadn't thought of them in years. I'd say we are solidly in the grunge camp for sure.

So, the guitarist and I write or co write all of our stuff and we played out as a 3 piece with this drummer eons ago. The 3 of us haven't played together in about 6 years. The guitarist and I haven;t played together in about 3 or 4 years. So, the first 4 songs, we used to play together a long time ago, and I feel like we shook the rust off really well.

The last original, called Biography, I woke up in the middle of the night with it fully formed in my head and played it all out and tabbed it. The 3 of us have never played it together before last week. That wasn't the only take, but it was the best one.

@TS9 your music is beautiful man, really cool sound. Also, don't be ashamed of your voice, it has a pained, almost Gordon Lightfoot quality to it and suits that song well. Your sound is kind of early 90's indie to me, hard to put a finger on it. Sounds great.

Thanks. Late 80s-early 90s indie pretty much nails what I was probably most influenced by. Like seemingly everyone else, I started playing during the Seattle thing but ended up leaning more heavily toward the Bob Mould/Replacements/Pixies/Britpop side of things.

The first song reminds me of something off Mould's first solo LP, I literally wore that CD out. I thought I heard a Cure influence in it as well in the main riff. Although in a Cure song, the main riff probably would be played by the bassist.

Unrelated, I have been in a Matthew Sweet wormhole for about 2 weeks now. I have no musical shame.

No shame in Matthew Sweet. "What Do You Know?" from Altered Beast is one of my desert-island songs.

Today is the 20th anniversary of the release of Third Eye Blind's debut album.

I feel so old.

Wow. No offense, but that shit sounds almost too good to be believable. You should probably do more. Maybe sell your family or something so they won't interfere.

Ha, thanks. I'd love crank stuff our more often, but yeah, work and family and everything else leaves precious little time. Maybe by the time I retire I will have finished an album's worth of stuff.

More David Byrne talk here.

Something he did that not a lot of people are familiar with is this

Personally, I think Talking Heads were done and dusted musically after Speaking in Tongues, and I ended up becoming much bigger fans of Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth as writers, performers and producers. Talking Heads made nothing that ended up as iconic as Genius Of Love by the Tom Tom Club, which was Chris and Tina's side project.

This might be the most sampled song of all time.
