NBA Draft Discussion

Latest Kevin O’Connor mock has McCain 14, Filipowski 27.

Filipowski needs to land somewhere, right? I can’t help but wonder whether another year of school would be best for him so that he could be paired with Cooper Flagg, Duke’s incoming top-ranked high school prospect. But if Filipowski stays in the draft, then the Jazz would be a good landing spot because of Will Hardy’s ability to get the most out of his frontcourt pieces.

McCain 14??? I swear this isn’t one of those “run the Duke guy down to convince myself he should come back” things, but it’s hard for me to see him ever making a big impact in the NBA. His lack of handle and quickness at his size are severely limiting vs pros, no? Admittedly, I don’t watch as much NBA as a lot of you all, so who is a good NBA comp for McCain?

Seems like if he was a little more athletic he would be a top 10 player. Crazy he’s Dukes 6th best prospect by ranking.

UCONN having two draft picks in the top 8, and four overall (and two more last year who played with them), means one might be inclined to stop preparing for the Dan Hurley thirty year dynasty that for some reason didn't exist until two years ago

So Sarr's ceiling is "taller Jaren Jackson"? That's how Jonathan Wasserman at Bleacher Report described him at any rate. That sounds like a valuable player to me, but not #1 pick valuable.

I think I'd rather roll the dice on one of the elite shooters or small forwards.

Flip at 28 seems insane. But KOC has always been lower on him than most.

Obviously, his ceiling hinges on his shooting. But I think at the very least he's shown that he'll hold up defensively and that he'll be a nice passer.

I think this weird (and bad) draft is a good chance to us to score ourselves as talent prognosticators. I'd love to have us all lock in the guys who you predict we'll view as the top 10 players in the draft 3 years from now.

Would require me having seen them play. Harder this year than some previous years due to all the non-college players.

I'll say that I think Flip, Harrison Ingram, and Hunter Sallis are all being projected too low. That's probably just my ACC bias. But I think they all have the physical profile and skillset to be more highly coveted than they are. I'm especially interested in Sallis as an NBA prospect. I can't even figure out from Google if he's staying in the draft.

Looks like the only consensus picks among the high profile mock drafts are Sarr at 1 and Buzelis at 5. I agree that Buzelis is an obvious pick at 5 - he's basically a poor man's version of the ideal fit for the Pistons. I don't think there's much chance of Sarr ever playing for the Hawks unless the Hawks go with a full teardown/rebuild and trade all their assets for a better chance at Flagg/Bailey and Dybantsa/Boozer.

I still don’t get how Reed Sheppard is a top 3 pick. There is no way a team with 2 top 5 picks loses to Oakland, I don’t care how bad the coach is.
