I gotta give it a look. Haven't stopped by in a while.

Thank god for this fucking place...

I wonder if they will hand out bans for posting on other sites? I just posted this on rivals. It is just counter to my support for Duke for the "fire-cut" crowd and aGDevil2k to act happy when we win and yet they do all they can to undermine the coaches.

I think it is hilarious to go back and read through the comments in the game thread. Posters calling to fire cut. aGDevil saying it is the worst coaching since the Roof years. I love this comment from aGDevil: "Even if we win with a miracle, we will have to win in SPITE of our staff."

This is a Duke football board moderator commenting on a coach and staff that brought us back from oblivion. In another post, he just writes, "LOL. Renfree." Again, this is the Duke football moderator. 5th year senior QB and good old Ag just likes to denigrate him and crap on the coaches like always. And I get banned. Hilarious. I wonder how posters feel after posts like this from duke61: "We played to lose. We never threw till it was third down. We have the worst coaches in division one. We will never turn this thing around. Unbelievable." uncle_petie had an especially bad day.. here is one of his gems: "Holy ****, f the coaches, they are piss poor, I hate
CUT now."

Is there another board on the internet where the most active moderator is also one of the coach's biggest critics? And during the biggest win at Duke in 20 years, that moderator posts multiple times about the terrible coaching. Such a different mind-set from mine. I want to do everything to cheer on my team, but those guys seem to derive joy from crapping on their team, and they get protected by aGDevil. Glad this board is here.

Tell your friends, DC. We allow logic and reason here.

I don't know all the reasons why everyone migrated here away from TDD. I have morphed into a bigger football fan and don't follow the hoops board. As I have stated, I have tremendous hostility and frustration at the moderation and tone of the football board. There a large segment of constant Cut critics that demean the coaching, the recruiting, the players in every post and anyone that refutes or takes on DaTrain, Southfloridadevil, jacmac, aGdevils or the other jackholes gets banned regularly. So, the UNC win was incredibly satisfying just because I have invested some much hope in Cutcliffe and suffered through so many tough losses, and the incessant naysaying on the TDD. After a few celebratory drinks, I posted some inflammatory I-told-you stuff and got banned again. So, I have just watched things move along there.

Finally, a poster wrote a solid message outlining how so many wrote so many "fire Cut!" posts and invited the naysayers to eat some crow. John weighed in saying it was foolish to "call people out" and some other crap about all being Duke fans. Most agreed with him, and some said they should eat crow, and then the mighty Czar, AgDevil weighed in with his dictates and absolutes, and then some other contentious posts and the thread suddenly and mysteriously vanished.

However, I enjoyed the thread so much that I copied it and saved it. So, here for your viewing pleasure is the lost eat crow thread (sorry about formatting, but you can probably figure it out):

Apologies Welcome, Crow Served

I don't post often, but I read posts in this forum every day. Over the past few months even after VaTech I read calls to bench Renfree, fire Coach Cut, etc, etc...

Even if we don't win one more game this season, with this victory, and in particular the growth in character shown by this team on the last drive, I truly believe we have turned a corner here.

Just thought we should give the naysayers a chance to say sorry...

It happens at every single program in the country. It happens at every level of sports. I don't think you'll find a more devoted group than Duke Football fans. Not one. To try and call out anyone for being frustrated (or worse) over the last 20+ years is foolish. Additionally, I suspect that those who were and may still be doubting Duke have had reasons in the past. That doesn't mean they are any less thrilled or excited to see actual, tangible progress being made by Cutcliffe.

I have been supportive of Coach Cut and Renfree. But those that have been critical have their reasons, have been faithful fans MUCH longer than me, and have been burned so many times by Duke football that they deserve to be critical. The fact that they still hang around a Duke message board is impressive. So I don't think they owe this board anything.

End thread. I'll add not just tangible progress being made, but building a winning program as well.

No point in this silly thread.

Sorry for what? Supporting the program even in its darkest hour? I don't know how long you've been a Duke football fan, but if its been for a long time, you should know as much as anyone that the naysayers have had every reason for pessimism.

Hey noob, I've been going to Duke football games since Spurrier was head coach here and I haven't seen a crowd like that since he was here. We had not beaten the Holes at Wallace Wade since 19 frickin 88! People have reason to have some doubts.

I posted something along these lines in another thread. I wasn't intending so much to call anyone out, but was instead hoping that more would now step up in support of Cut and give him more slack going forward for decisions that he makes even if they can't (from the outside) immediately see the reasons for him making those decisions. He clearly knows what he is doing. It has been very fatiguing to read the critics take sniper shots at him week-by-week and month-by-month for most of the past 5 years as though they had all the answers and as though Cut had never coached before in his life (much less at the levels and with the past success he has enjoyed). I know it happens on every internet board in the country, but that doesn't make it right and it doesn't make it good or helpful. We can be better. We have a coach that has reversed decades of neglect and actually started to build something worthwhile. Its not a finished project. It'll take more time to get there and we still have an additional talent gap that we need to close (as jacmac has accurately observed, and as Cut himself observed after the game). But we are well along the path and have a much narrower gap than existed 5 years ago and I'm hopeful that we'll have more people supporting Cut as we move forward. He's earned it and I think we'll arrive at our destination sooner if we are all rowing in the same direction.

((there were some threads that I missed in the cut and paste, but here is the great MODERATOR AgDevil in all his finest glory)):

I have been hard on Cutcliffe, and I will remain so when I see things I dont like...and I will celebrate like hell when there are things that I like. I am more than thrilled that he is succeeding, as I have always said. Not a single person on this board has ever, to my knowledge, said they hope he (or our players) fails. I pull for Duke and we all pull for Duke. I think we saw some terrible calls Saturday (fake punt) and some great ones.

I, like DiabloAzur, do not understand this strange need from some to, in their first reaction to one of the biggest Duke wins in two decades or more, taunt other posters. I disagree with many on things. We had similar battles of Roof on this board, but I did not see posters saying "haha, see I told you Roof sucked! eat crow!!" Now, if they did, they were WRONG. But we have had this post and two other posters tell members of the board to "Eat it." So if any poster tells you he was banned for supporting Cutcliffe, he/she was likely banned for attacking other posters, not for his view. Of course, some like to leave off that they told the board to "Eat it." It's just weird to me that the first reaction, in this amazing time of celebration, is to talk trash to others.

I have not wanted Cutcliffe fired (I said he had to get us to a bowl, and I thought it was doubtful in this hard schedule year with FSU/Clemson...props on achieving it), but I have been hard on him. I will keep being hard on whomever is the Duke coach. Some say that's a bad fan. Fine. Support in your own way, but do it in a way that does not go after posters on this board. This weird need to "be right" is almost as odd as, what someone said earlier, "not admitting you were wrong"

Finally, on the game threads, they are great because people post in the moment, posting the emotion they feel at that minute. I do not want to see that change, for the highs and lows. If you think it in the stands, someone is thinking it at home and wants to share with their "friends."

You can have different ways of being fans. What is so wrong about that? You can have people that are overly critical and those that always see the sunny side. If both people are Duke fans, then both people want DUKE to win! Why care what KIND of a fan people are? This isn't a personality "one-size-fits-all" world.

Certain people have been consistently negative about Cut. Even when faced with evidence of progress (albeit slow), they chose to be negative and claim there was not enough progress to merit keeping him as coach. I don't see how it is unfair to ask those people to admit they were wrong.

Comments like this (paraphrasing) have been made. They were all wrong. Sorry for pointing this out.
- "This staff doesn't have a clue how to recruit."
- "Won't win another game against a D-I opponent for another 2-3 years."
- "Roper doesn't know anything."
I'm glad your opinion is the only right opinion...

You can't possibly have watched games over the past couple of years if you think the Roper criticism hasn't been warranted.

You're doing the same thing you're bitching to others about. How quickly you forgot the debacle of last weekend.

Been around since the early 60's. We were a respected football program and that is all most of us want. I don't expect National Championships every year like the Bama/Fla/Ga fans do. I would have been happy if Franks would have won, exicted if Roof had turned it around, and am tickled to death to see Cut do it. I'm sure you can go back to the last game, and I'll tell you , I was so ticked at the fake punt at that time in the game, it was a bad call by the coaches. Am I sorry to say that, NO, but I am so glad to see this Duke team not fold as I've seen in the last 30 year (expect for the OBC). We all appreciate what Cut has done, has he done it as fast as some want, of course not. Winning will cure all.
Just a side note, The win over UNC at UNC back in Spurrior's last year was one of the most satisfying football games I ever watched live. Walking thru the pine trees after the game and watching those Carolina fans leaving was so beautiful. It was better than watching all the Carolina fans leaving after a Carolina loss in the ACC Basketball tourney. This game was also one of those moments. We Duke fans want more of these type football moments, we are all in the same bandwagon. Go Duke!

Go take a look at the list of moderators on the football and basketball boards at TDD. I think this board may have sparked some internal actions.

What do you mean? There's still a ton of mods there.
