I was thinking about this yesterday and I can't remember teams huddling together before a foul shot before Duke did it in 91/92 timeframe.

In fact, I distinctly remember at that time, Duke huddling and the opponents meandering around aimlessly.

Now every team takes advantage of that break.

My question is: Did Duke invent the pre-foul shot huddle?

I may be having a TIA, but I thought that Dean Smith was one of the first to do it in major college basketball.

But that could be another Deano urban legend...

Before my time.

Dean's impact on college basketball is undeniable though.

Probably just another thing that Dean stole from someone else that everyone still credits him for, the more I think about it.

Dean Oliver also credits Dean Smith for using points-per-possession as a stat for analysis way before anyone else was doing it.

Don't forget coaches assists, although that's probably douchebag enough to be a Roy creation

Dean actually invented the Time machine, and gave the rules of basketball to Naismith. Deansmith/Naismith? It's been a big cosmic joke all along.

Was this before or after raising your hand if you were tired and needed to be substituted?

Much to the chagrin of Emily Post, he also invented pointing.
