Yeah, those are good. Sony MDR-7506 are tried and true for about $100. Anything Sennheiser for any given price range will be good.

Sennheiser is awesome, but most of them are open back. That means better sound quality but no blocking of outside sounds (besides whatever you get from having music blasting in your ears). I have the HD 558s. Love them. Had the 555s before and thought the sound quality was even better, but their headband tends to crack. The 558s are extremely comfortable.

For noise-cancellation, I have the Bose Quiet Comfort 15. I found them on ebay for only $110, which was way cheaper than the $220 or so you'll see them listed for elsewhere. The sound is good, though not quite as amazing as the Sennheiser. The main benefit is that putting them on basically blocks out everything. They do have an on/off switch and require an AAA battery, which is kind of annoying. It's easy to forget to turn them off and drain the battery.

Yeah, I was initially looking at the 598s, but I think the open-back will be a dealbreaker given my office setting.

The Sonys are an interesting option, although I might just spend the extra $20 bucks for the ATs.

I see the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's are only $100 now. That's what I use. They were much more expensive when I bought them. Great set of headphones.

Highly recommend The Computer Cellar at Ninth Street for any repairs you need. Incredibly fast, friendly, and cheap.

Ended up going with these - thanks for the heads up, Zack. If you google around enough, it seems they're the consensus price/value winner in that range.

A coworker had the Audio Technicas, so I got to try them out... obviously really nice, but I kind of agree with the reviews that say the treble is a little strong/sharp. The 7506s arrived today for $80 and I'm very happy with them so far.

They've been a studio staple for like 20 years.

Yup - that was the exact review that led me to the Sonys. Pretty incredible how comprehensive it was.

I would do illegal things with that kind of connection. It's best I don't ever gain access to such power.

Meanwhile down here past the borders of civilization, Wilmington is giddy to be getting speeds of up to 300mbs with our shiny new TWC Maxx.

This is the best I've been able to squeeze out of it

That's better than the shit I was getting with 300 TWC Maxx for the past few months.
