I gotta say it's pretty annoying talking to Brendan Marks when he's like "This insane roster turnover is the norm now, get used to it" while not mentioning that it doesn't happen for UNC.

I get that they had seven guys depart in 2022, but it was no one they didn't want to leave. And it was after one of the most disappointing seasons -- relative to expectations -- in college basketball history. Of course you're going to lose a lot of players there. Meanwhile, they had a season comparable to ours and Davis, Cadeau, Withers, and Washington are all back. Washington played 8 fucking minutes a game. That's the same as Stewart last year. And it seems like even if UNC adds a big, Washington isn't leaving.

Trimble returning to play a greatly reduced role is wild. I know people will say there wasn't any interest in him in the portal, but someone would have given him 30 mpg. It's not like Blakes is a competent offensive player, and he's out the door for us.

If there's small victories to be had in this hell-world, it seems the Omoruyi commitment might be a sign that players see the same level of fucking bullshit that a 5* like Bacot will spend five years in school with zero NBA development to show for it?

And just because he didn't go to UNC, doesn't mean I still don't think he's worth this much fanfare, tbh:

some were predicting as high as top 5 preseason with the RJ Davis news. Now you gotta imagine they're more in the teens.

Oddly, the sharpest sportsbook out there for title odds (if any sportsbook can possibly have a good sense of this 6 months before the season starts) has UNC in the top tier with Kansas and UConn, with a significant gap to Duke as the 4th team. I guess Davis is a big deal. Flagg’s college role is largely unknown, even to Duke fans.

I suddenly feel much better now about RJ returning. Should be a wasted year for both him and Ian Jackson (then again unc could still somehow miraculously get him to return).

What book? I find FanDuel to usually be sharpest.

Circa LV has UNC +1200/-2000 yes/no, and Duke +1500/-2875. They could very well be wrong, with all the retail books more correct, in which case UNC -2000 to not win the title is likely good value. Circa is willing to take $2K per person on these bets.

I think they’re probably right. Having a returning ACC POY at guard probably marginalizes all other elements of a team and makes UNC easier to project. Duke has a much flatter, less predictable curve of outcomes.

IF things stay as is (ie unc doesn't back into any of the remaining notable bigs), we've gotta be looking at one of the worst unc frontcourts in quite some time.

I really want to see Maluach hang his nuts on jalen washington.

Maybe one or more of Jackson or Powell will be studs from day one... but it's funny seeing the contrast when half this board has written off similarly ranked Evans and Kon as unplayable in a real contending rotation
This caused me to look up final rankings for everyone, which has now prompted me to release my official 2024 class top 25. I look forward to quoting this in a year and being correct on all counts.

Tier 1 - NBA star potential
1 Flagg
2 Bailey
3 Harper

Tier 2 - lottery perimeter talent
4 VJ
5-7 Tre Johnson/Ian Jackson/McNeeley
8 Boogie Fland

Tier 3 - uniquely gifted big guys
9-11 Quaintenance/Maluach/Queen

Tier 4 - elite role player athletes
12-15 Powell/Newell/Bidunga/Carter Bryant

Tier 5 - whatever, these guys
16-19 Bethea/Reid/Freeman/Sherrill

Tier 6 - solid wings who will need a year or two
20-25 Knox/ Richmond/ Kon/ Harris/ Evans/ Tucker

TIL that Pete Nance is on the Cavs playoff roster. A favor to his father?
