Funding in USA baseball is drying up as well. Considering how expensive the sport can be at the youth level, it wouldn't surprise me if the sport fell down into that niche category with golf and tennis.
Great job by the MLB to make some really excellent changes that made baseball more watchable than it's been in decades after the sport was already dead.
They go from 1 TV game last season to 90% of their games on TV next season. That is a needle mover like we’ve never seen before. Zion’s effect was similar but much smaller in scale. I’d say the closest thing is Mahomes and Allen, given how relatively small their markets are versus how many primetime games they get.
Feels like we’re living through the first true female athlete breakthrough in history. I can’t think of someone close to this level of casual interest. Maybe Ronda Rousey or Serena as a distant 2nd?
That Kentucky Derby was crazy close. My family and I decided to make a small bet on Forever Young, Sierra Leone and Fierceness. Got 2 of 3. I admittedly know nothing about horse racing betting so no clue if they won anything or not by getting 2/3. My deceased brother's favorite song was Forever Young so we were going to bet on that horse purely for that. Forever Young almost pulled it off too, crazy exciting race.
I love hockey and played the sport for over a decade, but still agree. Incredibly fun to play and watch in person in my experience, but it simply doesn’t translate very well to television.
