Seriously, that always amuses me everytime we've got a transfer and suddenly the best player in the program is over there sitting on the bench because he's waiting to play the following year (obviously Marshall and Alex don't apply here).

Rodney Hood became a safety blanket for me in regards to Jabari Parker. I won't even be depressed if Jabari goes elsewhere.

I don't know, Alex got made props from quite a few people last year. I thought some people even said that if he didn't get hurt he would have been starting.

Yeah I've heard that about Seth ("easily the best shooter on the team"), Murphy being incredible and a "guaranteed starter if he played" (not a transfer but still) and now Rodney ("tearing people apart on offense")...sometimes I think it's just a we want most what we can't have mentality, and these reports should not be made message board credo.

Well, to be fair Seth is a damned good shooter so there might have been a case there.

...And Rodney was a top flight talent before choosing Duke. So it's not a huge stretch to see he abilities and want him to be playing right away. He's going to be really good for us. And honestly, he might be the best offensive guy on our roster as far as the total package goes at this point.

Oh I'm not saying that those rumors are wrong, I was just agreeing that it's funny (in a sadistic way) to hear how recently some of our best players are often on the bench where they can't help. A lot of the problems they'd be solving are pretty obvious too...Hood would have brought length and athleticism to a perimeter that might be lacking in size this year, Murphy would have done the same last year, and Curry's shooting definitely could have been used for kickouts from Zoubs and LT. I just am bemoaning Rodney having to sit out when I'd love to see him suit up for my senior year. I guess C2C will have to make up for all the time we won't get to see him.

I'm glad Hood is on the squad. He will be a great, versatile piece next year, and I think having him, Alex and Amile on the floor with our without MP3 or Nichols will be a big matchup problem for other teams, without the defensive liabilities that have plagued us in the past.

So, how do you feel about PF next year?

I think that Amile and Josh are the closest things we have to a true PF, but I also think that there just aren't that many true PF's in CBB anymore. Just like there aren't very many true C's.

I'd rather have three versatile 6'8 guys who can run and play D, than 3 6'1-6'4 guys who don't play much D and stand at the three point line all day.

In two years, all the good players in college will be 6'0 to 6'9. Check scout's database; there's literally only 3 players in the combined top 200 of the classes of 2013 and 2014 that are 6'10 and taller and 4 stars or above. Guys like Amile, Hood; they are college PF size.

I really wish we could go back to everyone being eligible for the NBA Draft whenever they want. K could play 5 guards and win the national title. No decent 6'9" or taller guys in college basketball.

Yeah, I'd largely agree with Farmer on this.

But we won't even have a backup center as of this moment. If MP3 has foul trouble -- and let's face it, HE WILL (it's in the genes) -- we are currently fucked.

The question here is who else could even possibly be on our recruiting radar if (ok, when) Austin heads to Knoxville. Besides Jabari, of course.

Uncommitted 2013 bigs:

Aaron Gordon (#5 in Scout) -- will stay out west or go to UK or KU. I actually was surprised we never gave it a go w/ him, but w/e

Vonleh (#7) -- no chance

Jarell Martin (#12) -- outta Baton Rouge. May not be able to cut it academically, but will be a Spring decision, and hasn't set up visits yet.

Jermaine Lawrence (#15) -- his school list doesn't give me the impression that Duke would be a possibility, but he'll also be a late decision

Meeks (#30) -- whatever. Too late.

Johnathan Williams (#31) -- no chance

Marcus Lee (#38) -- down to 3, and we ain't among them.

Dominic Woodson (#39) -- will be a late decision. Don't count on it as a possibility.

Beejay Anya (#43) -- no chance we can get back into this. His list is already as long as my arm

Tyler Roberson (47) -- I'd imagine he'll end up at Cuse

Ugh. It's depressing going down this list. And not just b/c NCSU is on like half of these guys' lists...

Now would probably be a good time for NOD to let everyone know that he is an amputee....But really that list is terribly depressing. I think we are definitely stuck in the "perception is reality" cycle of we can't recruit good big men because we don't have any to show off to recruits as being great. I hate to be that guy but....Shelden Williams graduated when the current class of HS Seniors were in 5th grade. We've kinda swung and missed since then. Obviously there are a bunch of caveats to that cycle, but our perception/reality of being a guard-focused offense really is going to keep hurting us for a while.

Half of those guys listed aren't real 'bigs' anyway in the way people are imagining.

We got the 80th-ranked player in his class drafted in the 1st round.

If that ain't evidence of big man success...

What it will come down to if we don't land Nichols:

Does K feel comfortable going with (Amile/Jiggy), Hood, and Murphy at the 3-5 when Plumlee is in foul trouble or out of the game. I doubt it. Not for a full season at least.

Its coming down to which big we take, not if we take another big for 2013

As of right now, Hairston's listed at 240. Amile's 195. I expect Amile to put on some weight, but I'm sure it'll be a process. I can see Josh boxing out college centers, but Amile should probably only be on the court alongside Marshall or Josh.
