Just ten days after fracturing his left clavicle and nine days after undergoing surgery to repair the collarbone on his non-throwing shoulder, third-year starting quarterback Daniel Jones is already back at practice for Duke. According to David Cutcliffe, the recovery process Jones has undergone has amazed even the Duke trainers.
"Daniel is actually getting some good practice time right now," Cutcliffe said. "He's a tough young man, so he has actually put on pads and gone through practice. He's no-contact, obviously, but he's gaining his confidence back. He's moving well. He's running well. So it's hard to say. We're still indefinite, but our medical people are absolutely amazed at what he's doing. But as always, his safety will be first and foremost in whatever decision we make."
Jones played nearly the entire 2017 season with an undisclosed rib injury, which clearly affected his play but did not keep him off the field. This year, Jones sat out the week after his upper body injury and redshirt junior Quentin Harris stepped in to relieve him. Harris played impressively, throwing for three touchdowns and leading the Blue Devils to a win over the Big 12's Baylor on the road. Cutcliffe was impressed with Harris in his first start.
