Just ten days after fracturing his left clavicle and nine days after undergoing surgery to repair the collarbone on his non-throwing shoulder, third-year starting quarterback Daniel Jones is already back at practice for Duke. According to David Cutcliffe, the recovery process Jones has undergone has amazed even the Duke trainers.

"Daniel is actually getting some good practice time right now," Cutcliffe said. "He's a tough young man, so he has actually put on pads and gone through practice. He's no-contact, obviously, but he's gaining his confidence back. He's moving well. He's running well. So it's hard to say. We're still indefinite, but our medical people are absolutely amazed at what he's doing. But as always, his safety will be first and foremost in whatever decision we make."

Jones played nearly the entire 2017 season with an undisclosed rib injury, which clearly affected his play but did not keep him off the field. This year, Jones sat out the week after his upper body injury and redshirt junior Quentin Harris stepped in to relieve him. Harris played impressively, throwing for three touchdowns and leading the Blue Devils to a win over the Big 12's Baylor on the road. Cutcliffe was impressed with Harris in his first start.

Daniel Jones will play Saturday night if medically cleared!

How is that even possible?

to be fair, SMTTEM did say high level Duke athletes. Not sure Kyrie is on the same level as DJ.

I think this is a mistake. They will target that shoulder.

He shouldn’t take any risks running. No diving for 1st downs. Should be less effective even if his throwing is back to normal.

Wow. Crazy that he's back this fast, but the staff has been pretty consistent about saying that he's made great strides and will be back as soon as he's cleared. Even if he doesn't run he's the best QB on the roster, so it's hard to blame them if the doctors say the risk of reinjury is low. Suspect Harris will get a bunch of snaps anyway to keep VT off-balance.

I feel uneasy about this. Why not just give him another week to heal? Harris has been good for us.

Jones looked fine in the pocket. Until it collapsed anyway. He seemed to be little affected by his injury which is a good thing. Chris Taylor dropped a couple of early bombs which could have stemmed the tide of the game in the first half. Jones ended up 23-35, 226 YDS, 1 TD, 1 INT, which was a tipped pass.

Here we go! Daniel Jones update:

Questionable (Lower Body): Jones suffered a lower-body injury in the last game, leaving his status uncertain for the Walk-On's Independence Bowl against Temple. (Updated December 04, 2018)
