I assume most of the luxury apartments are Ponzi schemes of some sort.

When I think about the market for luxury apartments all I can come up with is "people in their late 20s to mid 30s with great jobs but no kids." People without great jobs can't afford those apartments. And people with kids want a house. While Durham has their share of young childless professionals, that's such a niche market that it seems like we now have 20 times as many luxury apartments as we'd possibly need to accommodate them.

i was in one of these shoe box apartments that just opened where i live the other day and they didn't even include a traditional oven in the kitchen build out. just two electric stove eyes and an over-engineered microwave.

Oh, FOR FUCK'S SAKE, EMBED THE FUCKING THUMBNAIL YOU PIECE OF SHIT WEBSITE. Links without thumbnails are the most pointless shit in existence.

It's this:

Damn. Remember when Jon Boy lied about the original shop closing?

Loved the Quik Shop. Would go there when it was just a gas, porn, toilet paper and Mad Dog store before they changed into a bottle shop. I was so sad when it closed.

Can't read the article. DOes it say why it's closing?

I was talking with the manager of Geer Street a while back when that monstrosity around it started going up and he really does think it's all some sort of Ponzi or tax avoidance scheme.

Me and my friends used to go in there when we were like 11 to look at the porn mags. We'd pretend we were looking magazines in the other section. I'm sure the employees knew perfectly well what we were up to. That was my first taste of real porn. I'd seen Playboys before, but I remember looking at a magazine called Close Shave and being both mesmerized and slightly traumatized.

One day, an employee finally yelled at us for looking at the porns and we sprinted out the door, hopped on our bikes, pedaled furiously away, and never came back. We legit thought we were gonna get arrested or something.

And no, it doesn't say why it's closing. Just has some social media quotes from John Boy thanking customers for their patronage.

Fuck Jon Boy. I got access and saw that he owns the building and the land. Dick.

I'm sure he got a huge offer. I don't blame him for cashing out on the Ninth Street location. He got $5 million. I would have done the same thing. He can't be super young at this point.

One of the local Indy papers found out about the sale and published it. He responded with a tweet with the article of the paper and a Gizmo Fake News IPA on it and ranted about how the journalist was lying. Then published a whole spiel that it wasn't closing and Sam's would always have a presence in Durham (there's the sematics) and then closed within 2 months.

Yeah I remember all of that, too. He botched that big time. I remember going to the little going away party they had (think the last day the quik shop was open) and it was lame as hell. He talked it up big time to me and a buddy when we were in a couple weeks before that.

Plus, his name sounds stupid and fake.

I had a bunch of friends who worked there. If you went in there in the 2000s or 2010s and were served by a scruffy-looking punk rocker with a beard, that was probably someone I know. If I recall correctly, none of them had high opinions of John Boy either.

I guess at least he learned his lesson and made a public post prior to the sale this time.

Ordered some wine from California that they tried to deliver on Wed and Thursday of last week. We weren't home. They only left a delivery notice after the Thursday delivery, so I'm already behind. I went on the website to change the date/place/hold in warehouse/whatever and it wouldn't work, said try again later. I called and spent 45 minutes trying to talk to a person who said that he took care of it and they would deliver it next Wed (2 days from now). I got a confirmatory phone call the next morning at 5:50am! I'm apparently getting another package from fedex this week, so I just checked on the wine again and it said, no more deliveries, if you don't pick it up in 2 business days, it's going back. We had gotten zero notification about this, I just happened to check. So, I call and the woman just repeats over and over again that they tried to deliver Wed, Thurs, Fri and that if I don't pick it up in 2 days, they will send it back. I tell her about my call changing the date and the confirmatory 5:50am call. She's not listening. I get frustrated and she hangs up on me.

I call back and the same thing happens. We tried to deliver Wed, Thurs, Fri and no one was there. I say I moved the delivery to this Wed. They say they can't send it out a 4th time. I say the 3rd time should never have happened because I put a hold on it and you confirmed it. They essentially tell me to fuck off, get to the warehouse tomorrow or it's gone. I tell them that they are awful and the experience has been awful, but that I will do my best to pick it up tomorrow coming home from work. This place is 20 minutes from work and 40 minutes from home. She ends the phone call by telling me it has to be my wife that gets it because her name is on it. I said if they delivered it to my house they could deliver it to a stranger that's over 21 that answers the door, but I can't pick it up with my DL with my address on it?

I hate dealing with these customer service assholes. 95% of the time they are extremely unhelpful. I feel bad for them though, because it isn't their fault. They are the sacrificial lambs that get yelled at. The company is indispensable, so they don't give a shit.

It sounds like you're getting criminals and victims mixed up. Just another reason our nation will soon crash.
