Has anyone noticed that shows start hours earlier than they used to?

Some day I might find the motivation to type out the entire, colorful story about how I came to experience an Ice-T "concert" inside a shitty, probably dangerous nightclub filled with strippers from the Deja Vu across the street in Springfield, Ill. Long story short, there were 7 or 8 opening acts, which alternated between no-name rap and metal groups from the central Illinois region, culminating in Ice-T taking the stage at 2:30 a.m. and rapping for an hour over prerecorded backing tracks.

I saw a great outdoor show last Friday in charlotte. Jimmy Buffett was awesome at the PNC Music Pavilion.

I’d wager that Jimmy Buffett is one of those artists whose show would be negatively impacted by being in an indoor arena.

1999 was a bit late for me to be learning that kind of music. I know all the cool bass lines that came out between 1991 and 1994 though. I'll play the shit out of some "Longview" or "Rotten Apple."

Few weeks ago I threw on RATM's debut for the first time in years just to see how much of the guitar parts I remembered how to play. I pretty much made it through the entire thing on the first pass. That stuff is apparently seared into my brain and fingers.

That's good 90's stuff right there.

Taking it back to the 80's last night, at band practice, we did She Sells Sanctuary by the Cult, with one YouTube listen through.

It's admittedly an easy song, but so much fun to play and for me to try and belt out vintage Ian Astbury on vocals was a real test.

I didn't start playing drums until I was 26. I had played trumpet and bass (and really shitty guitar), but my church needed a drummer. So I started late and am only good enough to consider myself an amateur drummer. What's irritating is I know enough technique to be able to hear exactly what my favorite drummers are playing, but I know I'll never get anywhere close to fast enough to play it unless my wife and kids leave me, suddenly giving me all the time in the world to practice. That's something that sucks about drums. You can't practice them with other people, especially kids, in the house unless you want to be an asshole.

Ehhh...doesn't have the same feel/reaction. I guess you could practice some basic song structures if you're learning something new for a gig, but for practicing/improving technique, an electronic kit wouldn't work.

Physics, is your town economically impoverished? If so, you'd probably be able to buy a shitty building for almost nothing and just practice there. Alternately, rent a storage unit. I guess if you're unable to get away for an hour every once in a while that doesn't solve the problem.

Being in Arkansas, you would assume so, but no, it's a pretty hot market for not being a large urban area. I like the idea though. Once one of my sons gets older and into playing, I'll have an excuse to play in the house.

I asked because my dad lived in Tarboro, NC, for a while and he owned an old factory that was probably 100 feet by 20 feet. He bought it for 10K.

They're getting snatched up by the meth cookers.

Find a cheap ass piece of land and get one of those metal buildings built on it. Or put a repo'd mo-bile home on it. You guys probably don't get an abundance of shipping containers there, but they're a pretty hot thing around here right now for building.

In Nashville right now for Foo Fighters and The Struts, who literally just came on stage as I typed this.

I dunno much about the Struts but they seem very British.
