Music

That new Childish Gambino song is the first thing he's done that I actually like. He finally decided to start saying something with his music.

In Nashville right now for Foo Fighters and The Struts, who literally just came on stage as I typed this.
@TS9, I watched Foo and The Struts when they came to Atlanta two weekends ago. I love how much of an entertainer Grohl is. Just seems like a genuinely good guy. My friend and I were about 8 rows back in the General Admission pit so we got a great concert experience.

And yes, the Struts are incredibly british.

Yeah, there are a lot of reasons why FF have such staying power, but one of them is that it's incredibly hard to dislike Grohl himself, regardless of how you feel about his music.

I happen to like FF music a lot, though, and they are pretty damn awesome live. Grohl's rapport with the audience is a nice counterbalance to the fact that they melt your face for 2.5 hours or more. And the setlist for this tour was just about perfect.

@skins Do you listen to U.S. Girls? I just discovered them and I think it's pretty good. Definitely in that dance-y indie vibe that's a little too ubiquitous these days.

I'm am so far behind in listening to anything new. I did like the song "Rosebud," it reminded me of older Twin Sister stuff.

This happens every few years but I've been on a huge Radiohead and Deerhunter kick. Probably getting to the point where I'll exclusively listen to things I enjoyed from ages 18-28 because I'm incapable of staying up with the new relevant artists.

I think that happens to everyone. In fact, it's scientifically shown that your tastes don't evolve much past 25.

I also will frequently discover things from like 2012 that just passed me by. Here's an example. Just really good catchy indie pop.

The Bangles sounds like what my hypothetical totally rad baby sitter would listen to if I were a kid in the 80s.

Buddy of mine went to Radford back in the day. Bangles played a show there, and Susannah Hoffs ate at the student cafeteria. He went through the line directly in front of her and had a nice little chat. Said she was almost overwhelming in her hotness.

My father attended Radford in the late 80s. Cool to see a Highlanders reference. No idea if he attended the concert in question.

Hoffs was a looker, for sure. Probably in the tier with Kelly LeBrock and Brooke Shields.

Seeing these guys tomorrow night (with Bat Fangs). Also seeing Kevin Morby and Anna Burch in July. Hopefully going to Pitchfork as well and seeing a ton of good shit.

Not sure if they’ve had any lineup changes since 2016, but when I saw them the guitarist was absolutely incredible. Frances Quinlan’s voice was built for indie rock and she perfectly embodies what I call the “cute girlfriend vibe.”

I like that her voice has a little punk rock roughness to it. Keeps it from sounding like other female-fronted indie pop.
