Player R.J. Barrett

You can tell this dude is an absolute killer. Are you looking forward to the UK game? They're all silent except for RJ who immediately says yes.

That second of video told me all I needed to know about R.J. More than any high school stat. The body language, decisiveness, and tone of his voice.

Dude is going to be the leading scorer and a megastar. Mega. Probably the face of not only Canadian basketball but Canada itself.

Really good test for R.J. today in the GEICO's semifinals: Bol Bol and Findlay Prep.

They have played already this year and Findlay/Bol Bol really affected R.J.'s game with a zone and his length. Montverde won on a buzzer beating 3 pointer.

5 ET on ESPN2 HD.

Barrett and Reddish should be similar to Michael Jordan and Steve Kerr next season - two great, clutch, championship-caliber players who complement each other. I know some people prefer to build a team around Kerr, but I'm confident that Jordan will be slightly more helpful to Duke overall, before the injury.

A more serious but still sarcastic comparison would be LeBron and Ray Allen when they were on the Heat.

Tre Jones = Dwyane Wade
Zion Williamson = Chris "Birdman" Andersen

Montverde advances to the National Championship tomorrow at noon with a win over Bol Bol and Findlay Prep.

R.J. Barrett had 22 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block (on Bol Bol no less)

7-19 on 2s
2-4 on 3s
2-3 on FT

Findlay played variations of zone the entire game and had 2 7-footers and a 6'8 guy going to Arkansas.

R.J. Barrett postseason stats (All star games and National playoffs) (3 games):

25-43 on 2s (58.1%)
3-9 on 3s (33.3%)
22-28 on FT (78.57%)

Bol Bol has a lot of work to do, btw. His number 4 ranking is based almost entirely on long-term potential. His shot is really slow to develop, has a low motor, is too skinny, etc.

You may have given us this before but what are Barrett’s three point percentages with the largest possible sample size? We are going to need him and Tre Jones to get up to the mid 30s to avoid the kind of defense that was played on Duval.

35% on a relatively large sample as a senior at Montverde before the postseason started.

He's much better when open and set or from the baseline. He takes a lot of contested ones in high school trying to prove he's a star, IMO.

They'll both be around 35%.

Thanks. That’s good. Spacing should be back to normal then.

R.J. Barrett plays in his final high school game at 12/noon ET on ESPN HD.

Montverde looking to go undefeated and win the mythical national championship.

Vernon Carey looks to be really good. They'll have their hands full.

My bet is on Barrett balling out.

Why doesn't Kevin Boyle coach at the collegiate level? Or higher? Do shoe companies give him so much money he isn't interested?

He has turned down job opportunities. He gets paid over $100,000. He also gets paid to do speak at clinics, run summer camps, etc. I would imagine he gets paid well from sponsors like you mentioned as well.

When he first went to Montverde a few years ago the deal was: $130,000 salary, a house with 4 bedrooms across from the school, and a car all paid for by the school. I would imagine that today his salary is even higher and quite possibly close to $200,000 since he's won like 3 or 4 National titles since being there.

All in all he might be making close to $300,000 a year and that school is probably paying for other things that haven't been reported- I mean if they paid for his huge house and a car they are giving him other perks. He is receiving all of this coaching high school basketball, speaking at some coaching clinics and running some camps. He works with Division 1 players, including elite level players which will become lottery picks, and he doesn't have to do half of the work that college coaches have to do recruiting (he recruits, but it's not nearly as difficult as college). He likely makes more than any Division 3 or Division 2 coach, and makes more than most Division 1 assistants.

He has one of the most comfortable, cozy, basketball jobs in the entire country.

Non stop scoring in the 3rd quarter of this game.

Scottie Barnes a sophomore, is better than Vernon Carey. They are just exclusively running offense for Barnes at this point.

Monteverde looks like it could beat some college teams. P5 size and players 1-5, great shooting, great guards, and Barrett.

2020 SF/PF Scottie Barnes looks like the real deal for NSU, though. Has looked like the best player on the court so far this quarter.

Barrett's FT shooting is going to drive people crazy if he doesn't improve.

He's 0-2 today and at 73% for the postseason.
