Movies

We graduated the same year and I love most of them. You must smoke "douche flutes".
If only I knew what that was or bothered to care enough to Google it. Oh well…

I guess I just turned into an old man faster. The grey in my beard proves it.
It was mentioned on another thread here somewhere about people that vape.

I hate Marvel movies. So boring.

Is there a thread here for StarWars-turbation? Don't think there's any other explanation for liking the milking scene -- unless you have a space cow fetish ;)
(And I am a big Star Wars fan…just not TFA and TLJ. Don't like the way the main movies are going. I'm just glad Rebel One was good and am looking forward to Solo.)
I can tell you're a real Star Wars fan based on how much you enjoyed Rebel One.
Probably should have said a fan of the original trilogy. So story lines that tie in with that are enjoyable (because the original story was great). I'm not a big fan of these new story lines. Most of them don't make sense. Or the movies spend too much time on certain throwaway scenes but not on more important ones.
Examples of scenes I didn't like. The casino scenes should have been shorter. Rey's "training" with Luke should have been longer. The scene where Kylo kills Snoke. Leia Poppins. Finn and Rose. Luke vs. Kylo, and Luke's "death." And there's no depth to the characters at all. I could keep going, but you get my point.
I do like the new Star Wars movies more than almost all Marvel movies, though, so there's that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The Leia scene was fucking stupid. Hated it. Was almost perfect, then they blew it.
I agree with that. Would have been a perfect scene.
And the kamikaze flight would have been so much better if they used someone we actually cared about in it.

What an awful post. Go watch Captain America.

Other than Canto Bight being too long and the Leia scene being terrible (only in execution, not in concept) everything you just posted is nonsensical. No depth to the characters? What the fuck movie were you watching? I think you missed the entire thematic foundation of the movie.

The depth of the characters and the story all sound great if you explain it in detail after the fact. The problem is that it was mostly executed in the movie poorly. For example, your explanation of the space cows milking scene. Fine, that makes sense explained after the fact, but it was a really poor way to show that discomfort in a movie. A lot of the main story arcs just fell flat because of poor execution (Leia Poppins, Rey's training, everything Snoke, light speed kamikaze maneuver, everything Finn and Poe were involved in, etc). There were definitely some great scenes, but overall it felt more like I had to convince myself and look up talking points as to why it was a good movie vs. just watching it and believing it was from the start.

I didn't particularly like TFA because I thought it was a bit too derivative. BUT I could still understand why people liked it and could actually enjoy it myself once I got past the similarities to ANH. Not true for me and TLJ. It feels like you could cut half the running time from TLJ and get the same movie in the end. The whole movie fell flat for me. I wish it hadn't, as I was looking forward to all the new upcoming Star Wars universe movies. As it is now, my expectations have been lowered to the point that only the "Star Wars Stories" that are sidestories to the original trilogy have me intrigued.

(I realize I've probably written way too much on this since it's been 5 months since release, so I'll stop now before this thread is ROO-EEENED. -- Or is it too late?)

Oh, also the fact that I always fall asleep about an hour into a movie proves it, too. I seriously can’t stay awake during movies anymore. Those recliners are in EVERY theater around me now.

Sounds like you're just bad at watching movies.

Nah, I just relate more to Mark Hamill's view of who Luke is and what the movies should be rather than the views of Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams. If you prefer where Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams are taking the universe, more power to you. Always better to truly enjoy something than not to.

Relating to someone's view has nothing to do with how well the scenes are executed. You said the story fell flat because scenes were poorly executed. Mark Hamill, despite not initially agreeing with where Rian was taking Luke, wouldn't say it had poor execution.

If you don't like TLJ because it ruined your childhood, whatever, just say that. Don't come up with some nonsense about characters having no depth and the story being poorly executed. 96% of the top critics on RT and 95% of critics on metacritic have a favorable view of this movie. Critics generally don't like poorly executed movies with depthless characters.

The irony is that you said you liked "Rebel One" (still not sure if you're getting the joke), a movie where the characters actually had no depth.

Initial reactions are coming out after last night's premier of Solo. Doubt it will be a favorite, but general reaction is that its a fun adventure. Don't know that I would expect much more than that.

There's a decent cam version of Infinity War floating around. I watched the big scenes a few more times. If they had simply gone with a more definitive route over the last 10 minutes, this is the best MCU movie, IMO. Such a bummer that they went with the route that allows for zero suspense or unpredictability.

A friend said the comic has a pane thats just a shot of Thanos snapping. I think a cut to black on the “Snap!” would have been a better received ending because the suspense would build more unpredictably towards A4.

Start A4 with the fallout and it could be a better movie.

Lol, what a weird reaction. It's like me not liking the movie is ruining YOUR childhood.

(Hamill thought they ruined Luke. I agree with you that that was not poorly executed, so I guess you're right on that.)

Holy shit, Darth Maul is going to play a legitimately big role in this film? That's awesome, not so much for his appearance, but that it signals a future in which the creative group isn't afraid to draw from TCW canon for live action stories. And not just one off bullshit like Saw Gerrera, but characters like Maul who were in actual Star Wars films, and who casual fans who've only seen the films would think he's dead. Gives me hope that we might see Ahsoka on the big screen eventually.

I don't think he plays a big role. Pretty sure it's just a reveal that he's alive and integrated into the criminal underworld. I think the reveal comes in a hologram communication.

Nice to see Deadpool 2 will be not-awful at worst and really good at best. Some of the trailer jokes are terribly cringey.
