NBA

D-Wade's possession draining, post up from 12 feet, spinning fadeaway shot uhhh probably should not be a staple in the Cavs offense.

The Cavs are playing only their starters and rotation bench guys in this exhibition game, are only missing Isiah Thomas, and they're losing to the worst team in the NBA without its best player.

*Yes, I know the Cavs will play much better than this at some point, but it's still a crappy sign.

**Yes, there's also probably a case to be made that Justin Holiday is actually better at basketball than Zach LaVine, but LaVine is at least supposed to be their best player on paper

I have a feeling Tatum won't need to do much of anything this season to compare favorably with Fultz. Unfortunately, Josh Jackson has shot well in his small sample size preseason so far.

I feel like the ROY race could transpire wholly absent of the top 8 picks in the 2017 draft. The top three rookies this season, stat-wise, could easily end up being Ben Simmons (#1 in '16), Dennis Smith (#9), and Kyle Kuzma (#27).
My favorite NBA Youtuber, MDJ, makes a good case for John Collins. Vegas has him at 12-1, but there are reasons to think his odds are actually better than that.

Cavs will still make the finals this year (and get demolished), but damn, Kyrie got out when the getting was good. He'd have been left holding the bag for this shit. I am so glad we're going to get at least one contrast year with LeBron still in Cleveland to exonerate so many of the lazy narratives used by casuals against Kyrie, as well as insight into how much he was being held back in that non-system offense.

Tyronn Lue having an NBA championship to his name really devalues the coaching position.

It would have been good for Kyrie to get out, period. He managed to get himself traded to the Celtics, with a great coach, a second 20ppg scorer in Hayward, two very talented forwards under the age of 21, and a GM that's shown a good job of identifying talent.

Yep, damn near perfect timing. Boston has the picks over the next few years to trade for that second star or draft someone. Boston is set up perfect to compete in about 2yrs when Lebron is aging and the Warriors can no longer afford their roster. Really feel like if they play their cards right they're going to win multiple titles.

How about Love saying Lebron told him he's playing the 5? Wonder why Kyrie wanted out...

See also: how about Love getting abused repeatedly on the defensive end by Robin Lopez while playing the 5 last night, and going 1-12 on the other end?

I wouldn't read too much into his offensive struggles at the 5 last night. He'll dominate there offensively. The defense is a legitimate question, of course.

Agree. If they want to run Crowder/Bron at the 3/4 then they need a legitimate 5. Thompson or Love and the pick for Cousins makes a ton of sense for both teams.

Thomas
Wade
Bron
Crowder
Cousins
Bench-Rose, Smith, Green, Thompson

That team might be able to beat GS.

I don't think Cousins brings them much closer than they are now. He's a great offensive talent but is just as liable as love on defense. Sure, if you can get him for Thompson and the pick, then do it. But, NO won't take that. They are basically trying to maximize their offensive abilities. Defense is always going to be bad with Thompson or Love at Center. At least with Love you can unclog the lanes and add 3 point shooters at every position.

Dwight Howard would be a great 5 for the Cavs.

More Duke homer porn from KOC:

This guy is as close as we'll get to a nationally respected Duke homer in the media ever. Except for Bilas, obviously.

Damn Richard Jefferson got traded from the Cavs. That's disappointing. He was always good for a near instant run for Golden State when he was in the game. Fuck him.

The nation's first introduction to Tatum will be a marquee game where he's matched up with guarding a LeBron James who will be motivated to embarrass Kyrie and his new team.

Wow, honestly very surprised Tatum earned that spot. His defense must be good. That lineup doesn’t need his brand of offense.

Opening night lines:

Celtics at Cavs -3 or -3.5
Rockets at Warriors -9 or -9.5

That Warriors line is encouraging for anyone who would like to see some competition this season. Have to believe the Rockets will be given more credit as the season goes on and they learn to play together. They will probably be a mess at the start, like the LeBron Heat. I would guess Warriors by 7 at home in the playoffs, Rockets by 2 at home down 0-2 in game 3, Rockets by 1 or pick em if down 1-2 going into game 4. That would be a winnable series with some miracle in game 5 or 7 at Warriors. Ryan Anderson and Clint Capela plus some picks for Demarcus Cousins is the trade to make once the Pelicans give up on the experiment and realize they are not re-signing Cousins.

Cavs line is whatever. Thomas probably adds a point, but no more than that. Playoffs versus regular season opener for a LeBron team probably adds about 2 points.
